Itinerary finished

I'm home. I had a great time. I enjoyed all of it. Now I'm moving to Albury.

Marie and I at the Musee D'Orsay

Marie is a scultpure that Degas sculpted. Marie was a 14-year-old dancer when Degas used her as a model for his sculpture. When Marie was exhibited for the first time the museum staff laughed at her and didn't like her. This is a bronze sculpture, but Degas also made wax models. We saw Marie in Washington D.C. and in Toronto, Canada in 2003. Marie is my favourite of Degas's sculptures. The other sculptures I like are the Thinker and The Gates of Hell, by Rodin and the Dying Slave by Michaelangelo. I also like Venus de Milo and The Winged Victory of Samothrace.

Notre Dame

Notre Dame

I liked it because it was bigger than our house ( MUCH BIGGER!!!). I also liked it because it had flying buttresses.

The Dome Church, Les lnvalides

The Dome Church

This Church has got Napolean 1 tomb in it as well as some others such as Napolean's brother ( king of Spain ) Joseph Bonaparte.

Montmatre

Sacre-Coer From The Pompidou Centre, Moulin de la Galette

We walked around Montmartre passed the Moulin de la Galette. Monet painted it.

Cite des Sciences

The Cite des Sciences is the Science centre in Paris. This is my Dad taking a photo of his mirror reflection. I enjoyed it.

Monet's garden in Giverny

We went to Monet's garden in Giverny and saw the Japanese bridge. It's an old bridge and Monet painted paintings of the bridge and waterlillies. There are paintings of his waterlillies in the Musee D'Orsay, the l'Orangerie and the Marmottan museums. Monet died in Giverny. He lived in Giverny for 43 years. As he got older he still painted the waterlillies and the bridge, but his paintings got blurrier and his colours got brighter. I am standing above a sign to Monet's house and garden in Giverny.

Auvers-sur-Oise ( where Vincent van Gogh died in 1890 )

We went to Auvers because Vincent died there.
He painted this Church that is now shown in the Musee d'Orsay.
The painting is shown on the bottom of the screen and above it is
a picture that we took of the church.

These are some photos from Marche Richard-Lenoir(Bastille) (Richard-Lenoir(Bastille)Market)

Frogs Legs (below) and Fish (above)

The Louvre (Le Louvre)

Psyche and Cupid The Louvre is a Museum that used to be a Palace. It now has lots of paintings even the Mona Lisa. It is the biggest museum in the World and has 35000 exhibits on show.

Marly Horse

La Defense from the Arc de Triomphe

We went up on the Arc de Triomphe at night and saw lots of things like the Eiffel Tower(Tour Eiffel), Sacre-Coer(a church in paris) and La Defense.

Eiffel Tower

From the 2nd level there are 744 steps to the bottom of the Eiffel Tower . We caught the Lift up and walked down. We could see Paris. It was scary up on the 2nd level, but I got used to it.

Heimaey

The eruption of Helgafell created new land and Eldfell. The new land is made of lava. As well as making new land, the lava covered many houses (we saw some that are being dug up in Pompeii of the North).

Heimaey - Boat Trip

Surtsey is the newest island in the world. The two volcanoes on Surtsey erupted in 1963 (10 years before Helgafell) and created a new island. The two volcanoes on Surtsey are called Surtur and Surtur Junior. Only scientists can land on Surtsey but you can get a flight over it or a boat trip around it. We just saw it from the distance.

Our Captain took the boat into a cave just outside Heimaey harbour. He turned the motor off and played his saxophone. His music was good ... but I think he was a better captain than musician.

We saw Helgafell and Eldfell.

We went on a boat trip around Heimaey. Heimaey is the biggest island in Vestmanneyjar.

Heimaey

We climbed up Eldfell and it was so windy when I jumped I almost got blown away.

Eldfell is the newest Mountain and volcano in the world. So exiting ! It was created in a volcanic eruption of Helgafell (another volcano on Heimaey) in 1973.

Eldfell is still an active volcano. It is the second active volcano I have walked on in Iceland (and in the world).

Fishing at Hvemmvatn

Bjarni caught a big rainbow trout. He gave it to us to eat. Before we could eat it we had to clean an scale it. The guts were everywhere.
We ate the fish.

I fished by casting and spooning. Casting is throwing the line out. Spooning is pulling it back in quickly to get the fish attracted to the lure.

I got a few bites and Mum almost got a big fish but it got away.

Mum and I went fishing with Bjarni and Haldora at Hvemmvatn in the fjordur (fjord) Hvalfjordur. It was my fishing debut.

Culture Night 2 - Evening Fireworks

There were fireworks at the end of Culture Night (in Icelandic Menningarnott).
I enjoyed the fireworks.

Culture Night 1 1/2 - Concerts

Our last concert was at the city hall. There was a blues - rock - jazz band.
This was my favourite band.

We went to lots of concerts. We went to:
  • a jazz concert at the Tourist Information Centre;
  • a concert of popular English songs at the Free Church - I knew some of them;
  • a concert of Icelandic folk songs in the National Gallery; and
  • back to the Free Church for another set of songs but this time in Icelandic.

Culture Night 1 - Morning

There was also a 10, 21, 3 and 1 1/2 km run for the kids.

This is the Reykjavik Marathon. It is a 42 km run. There were hundreds of people running in it.

Soccer Me!!!

This is me playing soccer in a club called KR (Club Reykjavik).
There are some people that speak English in the team as well as Icelandic.
I scored a goal on the first day. I shot from 10 metres out and scored just over the goalie's head. It almost hit the crossbar!!!

Soccer International

We went to see an international soccer game. It was my first international soccer game.
It was Island versus Spann (Iceland and Spain). The result was 0-0.
I wore my KSI (Iceland) shirt.
This photo was taken at 8:00 in the evening and it is still light. We were facing west and the sun was in our eyes!!!

The Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is at Vestabaer. It is geothermal meaning heated by the earth.

Process of getting ready for a swim
  1. Get your locker key and find the locker.
  2. Undress and put clothes in the locker.
  3. Bring swimmers with you to a shower.
  4. Have a shower.
  5. Get dressed into swimmers.
  6. Enjoy your swim.

When you come back in, you repeat steps 1 - 5 backwards.

The water is 29 to 30 degrees Celsius and the hot pots: the hottest one is 44 degrees and the coolest is 38 - 40 degrees. I have been five times and enjoy it.
